July 15, 2008

Al Hassan Group of Companies, one of Oman’s leading business conglomerates has signed an agreement with Omania E-Commerce LLC (OEC) to move its procurement processes online via “Tejari Transact”, the Middle East’s leading Business to Business (B2B) electronic marketplace. This move is expected to considerably help Al Hassan Group to further streamline its procurement processes and also allow it to reach out and be available to potential suppliers and business associates in other parts of the world.

The agreement was signed by Mr. Maqbool Ali Salman, the Managing Director of Al Hassan Group of Companies and Sheikh Mohammed Sulaiman Al Harthy, OEC’s Managing Director.

Speaking on the occasion Mr. Maqbool Ali Salman, Managing Director - Al Hassan Group of Companies said: “All over the world, technology is revolutionizing the way businesses operate and e-marketplaces, like Tejari, are significantly changing the process of interactions between organizations and quality business associates locally, regionally and globally. And while, there may still be several stages of evolution that e-marketplaces in the region will have to cross before they become as advanced as e-marketplaces globally, the undeniable fact is - this is the future and we at Al Hassan would like to evolve with the times.”

On his part, Sheikh Mohammed Al Harthy, OEC’s Managing Director said: “We are delighted to join hands with such a reputable organization and more importantly it is an important entry for Tejari in Oman to new verticals such as the construction industry. Realizing the boom we are witnessing in the region, the construction industry is definitely one of the main drivers of this boom. Therefore, we are sure that Tejari will instantly guarantee the sought benefits such as internal efficiencies, transparency and cost savings”. He added: “Al Hasan Group taking such a strategic initiative will defiantly give them the competitive edge in the market regionally and globally”.

Al Hassan Group will implement the B2B e-marketplace across all its three Strategic Business Units (SBUs), viz., contracting, trading, and manufacturing. Al Hassan Engineering Co. S.A.O.G. (AHEC), the contracting SBU, is the first contracting company in Oman to be listed on the Muscat Securities Market (Code: HEC). AHEC is a reputed contracting company with proven capabilities in civil, mechanical, structural, electrical and instrumentation and pipeline disciplines. The trading SBU, Al Hassan Electricals LLC has over three decades of experience in representing and marketing electrical transmission, distribution and auxiliary equipment from world leaders within Oman and UAE. The manufacturing SBU, Al Hassan Switchgear Manufacturing Company LLC manufactures medium voltage & low voltage switchgears and control panels. It is by far the leader in its field with 65% market share in Oman with 60% of its production getting exported to the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.

Al Hassan Group’s intention is to integrate the e-marketplace with its Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) platform allowing it to reduce the paperwork which will contribute in reducing time, effort and operating expenses.

Tejari currently has over 180,000 trading partners dealing with each other in the e-marketplace and is supported by cutting edge technology that provides a high-level of data security and integrity. In the Middle East, Tejari Transact is also supported by a 24/7 call centre and specialized personnel ready to provide local support and training. Through Tejari, buyers can find, compare and procure products and services from the familiarity and convenience of their desktop Internet browser. Suppliers can list their products and services and sell them through online catalogues.

In Oman, Tejari services are provided through Omania E-Commerce LLC (OEC), a 100% Omani company, which was established in 2005 with a vision to become the leading e-solutions provider in Oman, as well as an active and major contributor to Oman’s drive towards a digital society. It provides clients with innovative, value added solutions that maximize their efficiencies, benefits and competitive edge.

OEC’s strategic partnership with Tejari is intended to alter the traditional procurement & purchasing processes in Oman through providing an efficient and advanced automated online platform, which will help to energize the business environment within the Sultanate.
