Omania E-Commerce e-enables Oman Awards for Excellence

MUSCAT — The Oman Awards for Excellence 2006 is about to be launched via a new and improved portal developed and maintained by Omania E-commerce LLC (OEC), the programme’s official e-solutions partner. The new portal reflects the move towards doing e-business in the Sultanate and has been developed by OEC. Rebecca Blake of the Oman Awards organising committee commented, "Our main consideration in the development of this year’s portal was user friendliness. It is vital that all those who wish to enter the 2006 awards can apply without confusion within the entrant timeframe of March 1 to 31."
Staunch supporters of the Oman Awards for Excellence and this year’s e-solutions partner, OEC has been instrumental in conceptualising and developing the new portal. Shaikh Mohammed al Harthy, Managing Director of OEC, commented, "We are honoured to be associated with such a prestigious award. The idea behind the work put into this portal is to make it a more user-friendly tool for all users; the public, corporate applicants, judges, and the Oman Awards Committee. The new portal will be e-enabled so that the whole process of applying, screening entries, assessing entries, and awarding is more efficient."
The new portal will contain e-forms that will allow corporations to apply for the awards online. The committee and judges will be able to screen and assess entries using specially designed tools that will enable them to compare the different entries by the criteria set for a particular category. Furthermore, the new and improved portal will contain interactive polls, a dedicated media centre and web content management tools, which will ease the process of updating content on the website.
Sponsors and award categories for the 2006 programme will be launched in a press conference to be held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel this month. The portal allows potential applicants to view criteria for all awards in advance of applying and therefore allowing them more time to prepare applications. The Oman Awards for Excellence is an annual award programme developed by the private sector in Oman to celebrate the accomplishments of individuals, companies and other contributors who are creating jobs and driving the Omani economy. The programme was established in 1998, the year of the private sector. The programme is administered by a working committee of four to six members drawn from the private sector, from Ernst and Young, Trowers and Hamlins and Business Today.
Omania E-Commerce was established in 2005 with the vision of becoming an active and important partner in Oman’s drive towards a digital community. Omania E-Commerce has partnered with Tejari — the Middle East Online Marketplace to serve the Omani market with Tejari solutions. The company’s goal is to change the routine traditional procurement and purchasing process to a more efficient and advanced automated online process, which in return will help in energising the business in the Sultanate.
