April 16, 2007

InterContinental Hotels Group in Oman (IHG) has signed an agreement with Omania E-Commerce LLC (OEC) to move its procurement processes online via "Tejari Transact". This is a set of commercial solutions processed through the Internet, which guarantees flexibility and transparency as well as reduces purchasing costs. Both IHG Oman and Tejari will benefit from each other’s external resources.
The agreement was signed by the InterContinental Hotels Group’s Director of Operations - Oman and the General Manager of the Al Bustan Palace, Mr. A. Antonio Zamora, and Sheikh Mohammed Bin Suleiman Al-Harthy, the Managing Director of OEC.
This move is expected to considerably help IHG Oman further streamline its procurement processes and allow it to reach out and be available to potential suppliers and business associates in other parts of the world. IHG Oman incorporates Al Bustan Palace InterContinental, InterContinental Muscat, Crowne Plaza Muscat, Crowne Plaza Salalah and Holiday Inn Muscat Al Madinah. Tejari, the Middle East’s leading B2B e-Marketplace has an established presence across the region and is rapidly growing, with over 80,000 members.
On this occasion, Mr. A. Antonio Zamora, IHG’s Director of Operations in Oman and the General Manager of the Al Bustan Palace said: "In our efforts to streamline the purchasing processes and provide a more efficient and automated online system, IHG’s 5 hotels in Oman have been given an opportunity by Tejari to facilitate our procurement through its Tejari website. Zamora added "Such e-procurement initiatives in the hospitality industry are a first in Oman, and IHG is honored to be the first hotel company in Oman to take the lead in its association with Tejari".
On his part, Sheikh Mohammed Al-Harthy, the Managing Director of OEC said: "It is our immense honor to welcome a new member to our online community. IHG is the world’s largest hotel company and would definitely add value to Tejari’s online marketplace. At the same time we are very confident that IHG will reap the benefits sought from the community".
It is worth mentioning that OEC was established in 2005 with a vision to become the leading ICT solutions provider in Oman, as well as an active and major contributor to Oman’s drive towards a digital society.
OEC has established strategic partnerships with various leading e-solution providers from the region and internationally. It has partnered with Tejari - the Middle East Online Marketplace to serve the Omani market with Tejari solutions with a goal is to change the routine traditional procurement & purchasing process to a more efficient and advanced automated online process, which in return will help in energizing the business in the Sultanate.
Tejari services provide several advantages to users. They include reducing transaction costs, increasing clients' base and cutting the costs of purchases with the present partners as well as increasing the Internet exporters' base. They also save staff time and effort and guarantee more transparency and control over purchasing processes.
