OEC to build Oman’s first e-Payment Gateway system
March 27, 2007
MUSCAT — Omania E-Commerce LLC (OEC), Oman’s leading ICT solution provider, yesterday announ-ced plans to implement Oman's first and only e-Payment Gateway (ePG) system that will operate and reside within the country. "It is a great pride for our company to implement such a project for the country. This type of facility has not been existent within Oman and we are happy to say that it will soon be a reality. With this facility, Oman can better place itself amongst the e-economies of the world. I am proud to say that having the payment gateway, Oman will soon be able to experience true e-commerce," said Shaikh Mohammed al Harthy, Managing Director of OEC.
An e-Payment Gateway (ePG) is a system that authorises and processes payments by accepting payment information through different channels (Internet, mobile, kiosks, and so on). An ePG system facilitates greater convenience to citizens by providing them various channels and modes of payment. Users would be able to make payments using their credit card, debit card, or direct bank transfer. "Over the last few months, OEC has spoken to various merchants from different industries in Oman. We have seen keen interest from most organisations and this is very positive and encouraging for us.
There is good news for both small and large businesses in Oman since they will now be able to have a full online presence and in turn accept payments through different channels," expressed Al Harthy. OEC was established in 2005 with a vision to become the leading ICT solutions provider in Oman, as well as an active and major contributor to the government's drive towards a digital society. A 100 per cent Omani company, OEC prides itself in promoting e-commerce within the Omani community.
